A stone of help
The meaning behind the EBENEZER Stone — and why it is worth owning — drawn from 1 Samuel 7:12.
An Ebenezer is a memorial of God’s help and faithfulness. The word comes from the Hebrew Eben-haezer, meaning “stone of help.”
In 1 Samuel 7, Israel turned away from idolatry and returned to the Lord. When the Philistines attacked, Samuel prayed, and God intervened powerfully on Israel’s behalf.
“Samuel took a stone… and called its name Ebenezer, saying, ‘Thus far the LORD has helped us.’”
Samuel established the stone so Israel would not forget that their victory came from God, not their own strength.

Why have an Ebenezer Stone in your home?
The stone itself has no spiritual or supernatural power. It is not a charm, an idol, or an object to pray to. It is a visible reminder of the invisible faithfulness of God.
An Ebenezer Stone can
- Remind you how far God has brought you.
- Keep an answered prayer or deliverance from being forgotten.
- Encourage you during a new season of difficulty.
- Inspire thanksgiving instead of continual worry.
- Help you share your testimony with family and visitors.
- Teach future generations about what God has done.
- Declare that your survival, healing, provision, or restoration was not accomplished by your strength alone.
Place it somewhere visible and connect it to a specific testimony. Record the date and what God brought you through on the accompanying testimony card. When another battle arises, the stone will remind you: The God who helped me then is still my help today.
An Ebenezer does not say that the journey has been easy or that every problem is over. It declares:
I may not be where I am going, but I cannot deny how far the Lord has helped me.
